Some 81% of Ukrainians oppose the sale of agricultural land to foreigners, whereas only 13% support the idea, according to a survey conducted by the Rating sociological group.

According to the group's leader, Oleksiy Antypovych, in general, the introduction of the agricultural land market is supported only by 19% of respondents, 73% of respondents are against this initiative, and 8% were undecided.

Even among younger and wealthier respondents, owners of a land plot who cultivate it independently, the number of those opposing the introduction of the land market exceeds 60%.

Some 74% of respondents believe that the decision to introduce the sale of agricultural land in Ukraine should be taken at a nationwide referendum.

Some 58% of respondents said that farmland should be state-owned, like in Canada or Israel. Some 22% are not against the introduction of such a land market model as in Italy where arable land can be sold or bought.

A total of 2,000 respondents older than 18 years were interviewed. The poll's margin of error does not exceed 2.2%. The study was conducted from September 28 to October 1, 2019.
