Normandy summit to be held in Paris

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has confirmed that a meeting in the "Normandy format" will be held in Paris.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has confirmed that a meeting in the "Normandy format" will be held in Paris.
“We’ve taken a step forward, but many more steps remain ahead of us,” Merkel told reporters in Berlin on Wednesday after meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Bloomberg reported.

According to the German chancellor, the goal of the summit meeting in Paris is to put an end to five-year hostilities in eastern Ukraine. However, she did not name the exact date of the summit.

A Merkel spokeswoman earlier said the four-way summit would take place in the “near future.”

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated that Berlin saw progress towards peace in connection with the approval of the so-called "Steinmeier formula" in Minsk.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said on October 1 that Ukraine had approved the text of the so-called "Steinmeier formula." According to him, it provides for the adoption in Ukraine of a temporary law on a special status for Donbas, which will be permanent if the OSCE recognizes local elections in these territories as democratic.
