Media reported about outbreak of israeli anger over US comments on Western Wall
The Israeli authorities were angry due to the US official, who made a statement that the main shrine of Judaism - the Western Wall - is in the West Bank and "is not your territory."
The information, which appeared on the Israeli channel Channel 2, can provoke a tough diplomatic conflict before the visit of Donald Trump.
According to Channel 2, the Netanyahu team asked the US official if the Prime Minister could join Trump during a prayer at the Western Wall.
The US representative said "no" because it is "not your territory" and added that this is part of the West Bank. This caused a "skirmish" between the American and Israeli delegations.
A representative of the White House told VOA that "these comments were not sanctioned by the White House, and they do not reflect the position of the US and, of course, the position of the president."
The Western Wall or the Western Wall is in the eastern part of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is the remains of an ancient temple, destroyed more than 2,000 years ago. This is the most sacred religious object of Judaism.
In this area is also the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holy place of Islam.
Israel captured the Old City and East Jerusalem in 1967, and then annexed it to the rest of the city - a step that the international community does not recognize.
The question of the wall and the mosque is one of the most sensitive issues related to the Middle East peace process. The Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of a future state.
