The EU Council's decision to lift sanctions on former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Energy and Coal Industry Administrator Eduard Stavitsky came into force on Friday.

According to "European Truth", this happened as a result of the publication in the official journal of the EU of the decision approved the day before.

According to the journal, Mykola Azarov and Eduard Stavitsky were removed from the list of natural and legal persons under sanctions.

The EU sanctions imposed in 2014 for misappropriation of Ukraine's public funds or abuse of office remain ten former Ukrainian high-ranking officials.

They are: Viktor and Alexander Yanukovych, Vitaliy Zakharchenko, Victor and Artem Pshonki, Victor Ratushniak, Sergey Kurchenko, Dmitry Tabachnyk, Sergey Arbuzov and Alexander Klimenko. The sanctions against them were extended for one year - until March 6, 2021.

In recent years, the European Union has begun removing restrictions on officials from the time of Yanukovych's presidency because of insufficient evidence against them from the Ukrainian investigation.
