In March 1956, after a three-year period of mass protests that turned into an insurgency and a political crisis caused by attempts to overturn the king, France recognized the independence of Morocco, and independence was granted to Spanish Morocco in April.

At this moment the country's population is 34.9 million people, being the third Arabic-speaking country after Egypt and the Sudan. About 60% of the population are Arabs, 40% are Berbers.

Cultural and historical diversity has brought differences in the phenotypic features of the population, as well as in fashion.
